Long Term Care
The key to securing, providing a robust service and retaining a care home contract is dependent upon the system being provided and, most importantly, the professional relationship that develops between the care home and the pharmacy.
We understand this and provide medication management products and services to help pharmacists forge a strong bond with care home managers offering a ‘one stop shop’ service for our clients who service care homes, supplying our market leading 28-day unit dose, hygienic, 'hands free' disposable packaging system. The cards are available in different formats and can be custom branded with your own logo to ensure your pharmacy stays ‘front of mind’ with your customers, stakeholders and patients.
We also offer an environmentally friendly biodegradable version making disposal at the end of the month safe and easy.
For pharmacies providing services to a small number of care homes, the pressure sensitive format is both easy to use and low cost. No heat sealer is required for the pressure sensitive format, making it the ideal solution for a pharmacist, looking to improve efficiency without accruing significant cost.
If volumes are higher, heat seal is more advisable, reducing costs significantly on large orders.
If you are dealing with higher volumes, we offer the potential for mechanisation or automation with our
MTS–350™ desktop system and OnDemand® automation system .
How does it work?
Our system is widely used in care homes throughout the UK. The card is delivered from the pharmacy labelled and sealed in accordance with the GP's instructions, and has 28 compartments (blisters) each of which holds a single dose, in tablet or capsule form, due at a particular administration time on a particular day. Our unit dose system makes changes of drug regime easy to organise and manage in the home.
There are normally four different administration times for each day in the UK, and all are clearly marked in large print: breakfast, lunch, teatime, bedtime. Clear and simple advice on using the pack, and clear and accurate information on the identification and dose instruction of the individual medicine is highlighted on the pack.
Correct patient drug, dose and administration time is facilitated by our tamper proof pack design and our established associated and documented processes. We also provide advice books to facilitate setting up systems in the pharmacy and care home.
MTS expects and maintains the highest standards of operation when working with pharmacists who support care homes. This is reflected in our Service Level Agreements and in line with current regulations and guidance issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI), The Healthcare Commission (HC) and the Department of Health (DoH) as necessary.
